Introduction
Hi, and welcome to my website. Here you will find more information about the teaching services that I offer and some more about me.
I started playing when I was 12 years old and was playing gigs at the age of 13. I have, over the years, played in lots of different bands and situations. I have played in rock, blues, jazz, funk, metal bands playing all sorts of instruments (roll your mouse over the pictures below for the instruments and services I offer). I have played in theatre orchestras, completed session work for artists, composed a series of music for horses and dressage. I have composed about 10 CD's worth of music ranging from metal to funk to classical to jazz to acoustic etc.
I am very passionate about music and hopefully you will see this when we meet. I have a very relaxed but structured approach to my teaching and provide a comprehensive contact service outside of my lessons if you require support with anything musical.
I can support you to undertake musical grades if you wish. Some of my students go on to further study at the Royal Northern College of Music and other places.

Finally, you will need to attend my teaching rooms as I like to record people as they progress and I will also play along with you on different instruments to give my students a sense of playing or "jamming" with others.

The Instruments and Services I Offer
Guitar
I will teach you how to play your acoustic or electric guitar whilst you are learning the songs or style of music of your choice. I can teach any style of music up to any level. I specialise in rock, metal and jazz. I will teach you basic music theory and composition and how to play guitar solos that you can be proud of. If you wish to learn to read music I can help you with that too. I will provide you with music to take home and play along to. I will provide you with a practice diary if required. I will record your progress and once we have a number of songs completed I will burn these to CD for you to have your "Greatest Hits" CD. Favourite music chosen by students ranges from ACDC / Foo Fighters / Nickelback / Joe Bonamassa / Steve Vai / Joe Satriani / Avenged Sevenfold / Queen / Train / James Taylor etc etc.....
Drums
I have 2 electric drum kits and you will play one of them and I will play the other. I will teach you how to read drum music (dead easy) and we will play along to ANY song/s of your choice. I have a huge library of drum music ranging from jazz, reggae, rock, metal and pop. Favourite bands include ACDC / Iron Maiden / Nickelback / Foo Fighters / Dream Theater / Avenged Sevenfold / Aerosmith / Bon Jovi / Queen etc etc ...... the list is endless and growing all the time. I will teach you about the drum rudiments and how to integrate them into your playing. I will play guitar or bass or piano whilst you construct drum beats and rhythms so you get a feel for playing with other musicians in a live situation. Unfortunately, I cannot accommodate LEFT handed players (unless you can play a drum kit setup for a right handed player) as I do not have the time in between my lessons to adjust the kit. However, if you are left handed and you have never played before then you are more than welcome to come along and try to play a right handed kit.
Bass Guitar
This was the first instrument I played when I was 12. I love playing the bass and I will teach you how to play any style of music you desire. I specialise in funk and slapping styles. However, I can teach you how to play rock, metal, jazz, blues aswell. I can support you through your grades if you wish and teach you to read tablature or regular notation.
Saxophones
I can teach you how to play Alto, Tenor or Soprano sax in any style of music you wish. Jazz and pop tend to be the favoured styles of most of my students. You will need to learn to read music if you play the sax although I will also show you how to improvise (make music up on the spot) and teach you the theory you need to know in order to do this.
Keyboards
I can teach you how to play modern music and how to read music and play classical piano if you wish. Favoured artists for the keyboard lessons tend to include Kelly Clarkson / Alicia Keys / Rhianna / One Direction / Lana Del Ray / Gabriel Aplin / Christina Perri etc etc .... the list goes on and is also growing. I will teach you how to apply music theory to help you compose your own music and I will record you playing your own or someone else's compositions. I will produce a CD for you to listen to.
Composition and Computer Recording and Technology
I provide advice and support for aspiring composers of any musical style. One of my students has gone on to compose for film and television with the BBC. I will teach you how to compose and how to use music theory. I will show you how to use a computer for composing, recording, mixing, mastering and producing a CD in any style of music. I can also provide support for studio engineering using software and outboard gear as well.
Guitar and Bass repair and set up service
I provide a repair, restringing and set up service for your guitar or bass guitar for an additional fee.
Advice for GCSE Music syllabus
I provide helpful and relevant support and advice to those students undertaking music exams at school and who require additional support outside of school. I can cover any aspect of the GCSE or A level music syllabus in detail and explain it by using examples if required.
